Man attempts suicide by running into I-77 traffic with daughter in tow

A Charlotte man caused a massive pile-up, hours of traffic, and critical injuries to himself and a 2-year-old when he tried to commit suicide and "take his daughter with him."

Police in Charlotte say a man and a 2-year-old girl are in critical condition after he intentionally ran into traffic on Interstate 77 Sunday night.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, the man, whose name has not been released, ran into northbound traffic on I-77 at 8:20 p.m. Police said he was holding his 2-year-old daughter and was trying to commit suicide and “bring” the baby with him.

The pair was hit by a vehicle and both suffered critical injuries.
